Four-year project on biomarker use in oncology generates 9 patent applications

The project, subsidised by Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI), is one of the activities of the ONCOLÓGICA consortium, created four years ago
by seven biopharmaceutical and biotechnology firms, mostly Spanish.

This project, whose full title is “New strategies based on biomarkers for detection, prognosis, response prediction and development of new treatments for cancer”, generated a total of nine patent applications and 12 scientific publications.

In the diagnostic area, an in vitro diagnostic test (GynEC®-DX) was developed which makes it possible to rule out endometrial cancer at an early stage and provides close to 100% reliability. The test is already commercially available in Spain and an international licence is currently being negotiated.
